Opera 10 und Widgets

The Opera web browser version 10 hasn't been released just yet, but apparently they are hopeful that it will lure users away from IE with its various widget offerings. I would imagine that a number of Firefox users would be interested in this as well, considering that these widgets are more akin to Firefox extensions that anything IE has to offer.

We have been using Opera as our main browser for the past few weeks on both Mandriva Linux and XP systems, ever since there was a security issue with what I suspect to be Firefox extensions and Google Documents. Well, that's my suspicion, anyway...

...Opera is a good, reliable browser, and has many built in functions we find to be valuable, including the notes and the ability to tile tabs. With respect to tabs, it's almost as powerful as Konqueror.

The most significant of these features, IMHO, is the "Create Search" feature, which allows one to add a custom search from any website to the tool-bar simply by right clicking in the appropriate search form.

One problem I have noticed is that it has difficulty with flash on a Linux system, but for all I know its more of a Linux configuration issue and not Opera itself.

So we will be looking forward to more of Opera, and will grab a copy of v10 as soon as it's released.

Yahoo! Pipes

This morning I read on Webmasterworld about Yahoo! Pipes, and hope to give it a try later today. It looks like a powerful way to collect all types of useful information. I hope to give it a try around lunchtime and will share my experiences then.

"Pipes is an interactive feed aggregator and manipulator. Using Pipes,
you can create feeds that are more powerful, useful and relevant."
